These are the rules for informal recruitment, 2010, a period of time for potential members to become familiar with every sorority and the women in them. Please bear in mind that the honor system applies to ALL aspects of student life, including recruitment, and so we, as Washington and Lee women, should conduct ourselves accordingly. Sorority women are responsible for removing themselves from situations which violate or potentially violate the rules. Violations of recruitment rules are subject to Panhellenic judicial action. Refer to the Panhellenic Constitution (available at www.wlupanhel.com) for examples and clarifications of the rules.
1. Slander and inappropriate promotion of a sorority are completely unacceptable and are forbidden.
2. There may not be any social activities between sorority members and potential members on Mondays and Tuesdays.
3. Alcohol should not be the focus or part of activities between sorority women and potential members, both during informal and formal recruitment.
4. Potential members, including sophomores, are not permitted in the sorority houses or the designated ADPi hall other than during Panhellenic sponsored events and campus wide activities.
5. No potential members, including sophomores, may be present at a closed party sponsored by a sorority; examples include but are not limited to themed parties with fraternities. Potential members may however, attend themed parties with fraternities after they have opened.
6. A member of a sorority may not buy or give anything for or to a potential new member.
7. Biological sisters may continue their normal sibling relationship without boundaries. However, older sisters must obey Panhellenic rules in the presence of other potential members (i.e. her younger sister’s friends).
8. Men should not be involved with recruitment.
9. There may be at most, one more sorority woman than potential new members on sorority outings. The potential new members may outnumber the sorority women without restriction.
10. Sorority women should practice limited communication by not intentionally contacting or talking to a PNM about sorority recruitment from the time they leave campus after Fall Term finals end until Bid Night.
11. No chapter member may promise or imply the promise of a bid.
